SUPERSCALAR PROCESSOR

Introduction:

My project is on university code details. I have chosen the famous Lovely Professional University.LPU has grown phenomenally from its humble infancy as a management and IT institute. Its extraordinary progress is a symbol of the growth and potential of modern India. LPU has emerged as a global university with boasting distinctive strengths in education and entrepreneurship. As a platform for excellence in teaching, learning& administration, state-of-the-art information technology is extensively used in LPU, contributing to the development of well trained graduates, post graduates and doctorates to meet the professional manpower needs of not just India but the world. Education at LPU is a holistic one, aimed at developing the intellectual and personal strengths of our students. Nurturing creativity and innovation through challenging project work, participative learning and providing an environment conducive to sparking ideas and imagination. The LPU experience takes place both within and outside the classroom.

LPU observes a semester-based system for conducting courses, incorporating and depth, yet allowing flexibility and breadth. With no walls’ educational environment, disciplinary boundaries at LPU are porous, with learning across faculties and disciplines highly encouraged. LPU has an excellent track record of launching its students into successful career paths. Our student support services can talk to you even before you become a student of LPU; help you while you are a student, perhaps with advice about how to access study support, or ideas on how to make the most of your time at the university; and give guidance on job -seeking once you are about to complete your professional education.

About C++:

C++ (pronounced “See plus plus”) is a statically typed, free-form, multi-paradigm, compiled, general-purpose programming language. It is regarded as a middle-level language, as it comprises a combination of both high-level and low-level language features.It was developed by Bjarne Stroustrup starting in 1979 at Bell Labs as an enhancement to the C programming language and originally named “C with Classes”. It was renamed to C++ in 1983.

C++ is widely used in the software industry, and remains one of the most popular languages ever created. Some of its application domains include systems software, application software, device drivers, embedded software, high-performance server and client applications, and entertainment software such as video games. Several groups provide both free and proprietary C++ compiler software, including the GNU Project, Microsoft, Intel, Borland and others.

C++ is also used for hardware design, where design is initially described in C++, then analyzed, architecturally constrained, and scheduled to create a register transfer level hardware description language via high-level synthesis.

Abstract:

The computerization of administrative affairs has become an important competition strategy in many universities and colleges adopted recent years. There are many university administrative affair systems including record and document management system, course scheduling system, grade management system and teaching evaluation system. These systems may not only largely improve the efficiency of university administrative work, but also be able to reduce the cost of staffing.

Course scheduling is a collaborative and uneasy task seeking for matching requirements from students and teachers under constrains of time, space and human preferences. It requires cooperation and understanding among faculty, staff and students. As a multiple constraints satisfaction problem in its nature, the process of course scheduling is very cumbersome and time-consuming. Manual course scheduling is error prone and time consuming.

The Use Case Technique:

Requirements analysis is the process of finding solutions and architectures for actual requirements. Use cases are used to fulfill participants’ objectives and execute case analysis from the users’ operational scope. The steps for defining and generating use cases are as follows:

1. discover the main participants;

2. find the main user objectives from the user pool;

3. define use cases for achieving user objectives.

1) Use Case Definition

The users are defined as the students enrolled in the course, teachers, and departmental assistants. Departmental assistants make arrangements for classes, and, depending on the curriculum organization of the department and instructors’ fields of specialization, ask department instructors to teach various classes. They also make arrangements for classrooms based on the class times specified by instructors. Lastly, once the academic affairs department has given permission to open a course, those responsible for managing courses can log in to the course management system and make arrangements for classes. Use case diagrams and use case analysis diagrams drawn according to the Rational Rose method appear below.

Fig: Use Case Analysis

2) Course Management Procedure

clip_image006After academic affairs staff log in to the course management system, they can arrange and assign classes, make adjustments and substitutions, and arrange for makeup classes. In order to log in, staff are required to enter a user name and password. After users have been verified, the main screen is displayed. If the system fails to verify a certain user, it will return to the log in screen. The procedure for system administrators to log in and perform course management operations follows:

Fig: Procedural Diagram for Course Management

3) The Elements of Course Management

Course management must include courses, instructors, courses to be offered, course selection screen, course selection confirmation screen, student course selection data, course selection statistics, course statistics by term, and lists of students who have selected each course.

The system is able to display class arrangement status right from the beginning; one simply needs to generate a new course entry, enter class data and add a blank class form. In the second stage, one assigns course instructors and specifies class times and locations based on class assignment data. The third stage involves making arrangements for all classes and locations for each course. The inspection stage involves checking to make sure that there are no errors in instructor and class locations. Once it is has been confirmed that there are no errors, the entire course arrangement process is complete.

Scope and Methodology:

Part of my reason for doing this is that I’m dissatisfied with the current array of proprietary course management systems out there.

Here is a brief description of what my mind plans to propose . I also include my cost/benefit analysis.

Basic Setup

1. Pages For Each Course

A page for each course. Course specific materials can be linked to there.

2. Side Bar for All Courses

I find myself giving roughly the same set of general materials to all of my students. Those general materials can be in the side bar. The nice thing is that this should reinforce the idea that some of the things I rant about are applicable across all of the courses.

3. One Blog to Rule Them All

A single WordPress install gives you a single blog apparatus. I think this is going to be a GOOD thing. The blog feature can be a discussion board that students from all of my classes post to and participate in. There are several benefits to this which I will list below.

Benefits:

1. Non-Proprietary

If you’re a fan of open source – WordPress is one way to go. Colleges spend a lot of money on course management software. Why bother?

2. Outside Access

Other people (including colleagues from other fields, prospective students) will be able to access your course information, and see a model. You can get feedback from other colleagues in the field, and they can get ideas.

3. Gets Students Using a Standard Blogging Platform.

Once students leave college they won’t be using something like Angel, WebCT, or Blackboard. Why not familiarize them with a content management system that they might actually use one day in business or their personal blogging?

4. Gets Students Familiar with other Web 2.0 apps

Almost all students didn’t know what an RSS feed was or what an RSS Reader was. Students will be much better off if they are familiar with the way the internet has changed within the last five-ten years. Familiarizing them with how blogs operate is the first step.

5. Other Issues With Proprietary Course Management Software

Let’s face it. Proprietary Course Management Software is light-years behind the tech market in terms of what you can do. It’s slow, clunky, not very user friendly, and doesn’t have nearly the flexibility that other content management software has.

Advantages and Disadvantages:

Advantages:

Ø Speedy innovation

Ø May be low cost depending on the feature fit and level of support needed Secure

Ø Sometimes more standards-based than commercial products

Disadvantages:

Ø New skills are often required

Ø Community involvement takes time

Ø User interfaces tend not to be very polished

Conclusion:

A university’s Course Management System is arguably the largest single service directly used by students and faculty. Its role is to further the very core of the teaching and learning mission. Indiana University’s On course has served the institution well, but many extensions and transitions will be required to keep pace with needs and opportunities. On course is presently under-funded to keep pace with these requirements and opportunities.

This analysis document presents the first step in outlining a vision and incremental path towards its realization. If OVPIT leadership concurs with these recommendations, then more diligence will be required to put specific costs and timeframes with each action item.

Indiana University has established research leadership positions in high performance networks, teraflop supercomputing, and has the foundation for doing so again with the Pervasive Technology Labs and other initiatives. Our comparatively strong positions with Oncourse, the OneStart Portal, and Digital Libraries afford us extraordinary control over our own destiny in creating the leading teaching and learning technology environment for Indiana University’s students and faculty. The recommendations and action items presented here provide the basis for next steps in the evolution of IU’s enterprise-scale technologies to support teaching and learning.
